Staying in Mile End
Montreal's creative heart — bagels, cafes, galleries and green space, all on your doorstep.
Mile End sits just north of downtown Montreal, in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. It is one of the city's most distinctive neighbourhoods: a walkable grid of cafes, bakeries, independent shops and brick triplexes that has long drawn artists, musicians and makers. La Maison du Mile-End puts you right in the middle of it, at 204 Rue Bernard.
Mile End is a food lover's neighbourhood. It is home to two of Montreal's legendary wood-fired bagel bakeries — St-Viateur Bagel and Fairmount Bagel — along with long-standing espresso bars such as Café Olimpico, independent restaurants, and the bars and delis of Saint-Laurent Boulevard, known locally as 'The Main'.
Long considered Montreal's creative quarter, Mile End is lined with art galleries, record shops, independent boutiques and street murals. It has been home to generations of artists and musicians, as well as studios and technology companies including the Ubisoft Montreal games studio.
Green space is close at hand. Parc Jeanne-Mance is about a 10-minute walk away, and beyond it rises Mount Royal — the large hillside park at the heart of the city laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted, the designer of New York's Central Park.
The neighbourhood is flat, walkable and bike-friendly. Rosemont metro station (orange line) is about a 5-minute walk, BIXI bike-share stations are nearby, and downtown Montreal is roughly 10 minutes away by metro.
